What is the Central Railway Act Apprentice recruitment 2026?
RRC Central Railway, Mumbai, has issued notification RRC/CR/AA/2026 dated 3 November 2026 to engage apprentices under the Apprentices Act 1961 at workshops, sheds and units of Central Railway. It is a centralised notification. RRC is the nodal agency that takes the applications and prepares the merit lists.
There is no exam. Training lasts one year, and it does not promise a Railway job.
How many slots are there, and where?
There are 2,861 provisional slots in five clusters. You must pick one cluster, and you can give unit preferences only within it.
| Cluster | Main units |
|---|---|
| Mumbai | Carriage & Wagon (Coaching) Wadi Bunder, Kalyan and Kurla Diesel Sheds, Parel and Matunga Workshops, S&T Workshop Byculla and others |
| Bhusawal | Electric Loco Shed and Electric Locomotive Workshop Bhusawal, CEW Manmad, TMW Nasik Road, Carriage & Wagon Depot |
| Pune | Carriage & Wagon Depot Pune, Diesel Loco Shed Pune, Electric Loco Shed Daund |
| Nagpur | Electric Loco Shed Ajni, Carriage & Wagon Depot, MELPL Ajni, Engineering, S&T and Admin units |
| Solapur | Kurduwadi Workshop, Carriage & Wagon Depot, Engineering and S&T units |
Slots are listed trade by trade and community-wise in the notification. Trades include Fitter, Electrician, Turner, Machinist, Welder, Painter (General), Pipe Fitter or Plumber, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Information Technology and Electronic System Maintenance, Armature Coil Winder and Stenographer. Check the table for your ITI trade before you choose a cluster. If your cluster has no slot in your trade, the application is wasted, and you cannot edit it after final submission.
If SC or ST slots stay empty, SC and ST candidates can fill each other's slots, and any leftover goes to unreserved candidates. Unfilled OBC slots also go to unreserved candidates.

What is the stipend?
Act Apprentices get Rs 9,600 a month as National or State Certificate holders, as per Railway Board order RBE No. 116/2025 dated 11 November 2025. The training period is 1 year for all trades. No hostel is provided, so you must arrange your own stay.
What is the application fee?
- All candidates except those below: Rs 100, non-refundable.
- SC, ST, PwBD and women: no fee.
Pay online by debit card, credit card, net banking, UPI or wallet. If the fee is deducted but you cannot download the form, use the Verify Payment button. Avoid paying twice, because the duplicate payment is forfeited.
What is the selection process?
- The merit list uses the simple average of your Class 10 aggregate percentage and your ITI percentage in the trade applied for.
- Class 10 marks are the aggregate of all subjects, not marks in individual subjects.
- For ITI, the average of all semesters in the trade (or the percentage on the provisional National Trade Certificate) is used.
- If your board gives only letter grades, take the midpoint of the grade range, as shown in the notification.
- Ties go to the older candidate, then to whoever passed Class 10 earlier.
- A cluster-wise, unit-wise, trade-wise and community-wise merit list is made, equal to the number of slots. There is no single list for all of Central Railway.
- Listed candidates go through original document verification and a medical examination.
If the marks you enter do not match what RRC calculates from your certificates, your candidature is rejected.
How do I apply?
- Open rrccr.com and the apprentice application link.
- Check the slot table for your ITI trade and choose one cluster.
- Enter your Class 10 and ITI percentages exactly.
- Upload the photograph, signature and certificates.
- Pay Rs 100 through the gateway if it applies to you.
- Submit before 5:00 pm on 2 December 2026.
- Note the registration number and keep the printout and e-receipt.
Do not wait for the last day, as the site can slow down when many candidates apply together.
Documents to keep ready
- Class 10 mark sheet and certificate
- ITI mark sheets for all semesters and the National Trade Certificate or provisional certificate
- Caste certificate on the Central Government format, if you claim SC or ST
- OBC caste and non-creamy layer certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026, if you claim OBC
- Disability certificate, if applicable
- Discharge certificate, for ex-servicemen and their children

Common mistakes

- More than one application. All of them are rejected.
- Wrong percentage. Marks that differ from your certificates lead to rejection.
- Old OBC certificate. It must be issued on or after 1 April 2026.
