Common rules for every post
- 202 questions, 230 marks, 3 hours. Each section has its own clock. You cannot carry time over.
- Penalty: one-fourth of a question's marks for a wrong objective answer. No penalty for a blank.
- Descriptive test (all posts): Language and Comprehension Abilities, 2 questions, 30 marks, 30 minutes, English. Qualifying floor 40% UR, 35% OBC, EWS, SC, ST, PwBD, ExSM.
- Professional or Subject Knowledge (AM Technical, Finance, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and JE Technical): same 40% and 35% floor.
- Every section has a cut-off, plus a total cut-off. CWC sets the actual figures after the exam and can raise or lower the printed floors.
- Normalisation: equated scores and the equi-percentile method if sessions differ.
- Medium: English Language and descriptive in English. Most other sections in Hindi and English. In the two JE structures, Reasoning and Computer Aptitude is printed as English only.

How to split your preparation
JE (General) and AM (General): treat it as a bank mains. Daily quant and DI sets, high-level reasoning puzzles, one English reading set, and an essay or letter every two days for the descriptive. Add warehousing and agri-logistics current affairs to GA.
AM professional posts: half your time on the subject list above. Use GATE-level material for engineering branches, Ind AS and the new Income Tax Act for Finance, and storage and pest control texts for Technical. The other half on English, the descriptive, and quick GA.
JE (Technical): the subject list is wide but at B.Sc level. Storage, pests, fumigation and microbiology appear across both technical syllabi, which tells you what CWC actually does in a warehouse.
Descriptive for everyone: the floor is 40% or 35% of 30 marks. Write two short pieces (say a 250-word essay and a formal letter) in 30 minutes, five times before the exam.
A full 200-question JE (General) mock uses the same four timed sections.
Frequently Asked Questions
202 for every post: 200 objective questions and 2 descriptive questions, 230 marks, 3 hours, with each section separately timed.
