ITBP Head Constable Motor Mechanic Recruitment 2026

Overview

Indo-Tibetan Border Police opened the Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) form at 12:01 am on 28 September 2026. There are 21 posts, for men. The form closes at 11:59 pm on 27 October 2026.

The post is General Central Service, Group C, non-gazetted and non-ministerial, temporary and likely to be permanent. Posting can be anywhere in India or abroad, under the ITBPF Act, 1992 and the ITBPF Rules, 1994.

This notice is easy to mix up with the Education and Stress Counsellor notice that opened the same morning. Posts and pay

Ten percent is reserved for ex-servicemen. An unfilled ex-serviceman vacancy goes to a non-ex-serviceman of that category. The numbers can rise or fall, and the change is published on the recruitment website.

Pay is Level 4, Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100, with dearness allowance, ration money, special compensatory allowance in specified border areas, free accommodation or HRA, transport allowance, leave travel concession and free medical facilities. You choose the National Pension System or the Unified Pension Scheme on appointment.

Age and the trade certificate

Age is 18 to 25 years on 27 October 2026. The date of birth must not be earlier than 28 October 2001 and not later than 27 October 2008. The matriculation certificate is the proof. SC gets 5 years. OBC (NCL) gets 3 years. An unreserved ex-serviceman gets 3 years after military service is deducted. An OBC ex-serviceman gets 6 years on that method. An SC ex-serviceman gets 8 years.

A government servant, as defined in the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, can be considered up to 40 years if unreserved, 43 years if OBC (NCL), and 45 years if SC or ST. That relaxation is printed for this post. Do not copy the five-year departmental relaxation from the counsellor notice.

Education is 10+2, plus either a motor mechanic certificate from a recognised institution or an ITI with three years of practical experience in a reputed workshop, or a three-year diploma in Automobile Engineering. The experience certificate is checked at documentation, which on this post happens before the written exam. A diploma candidate and a certificate-plus-experience candidate are both in the printed qualification. One does not replace the other halfway.

Category certificates must be issued before the closing date, in the annexure. OBC non-creamy layer status uses income of 2025-26, 2024-25 and 2023-24. The EWS certificate is valid for 2025-26.

Height and chest

The 165 cm row on this notice uses 78 cm and 83 cm of chest. The counsellor notice uses 80 cm and 85 cm for its relaxed row. Read the row you actually fall in, and carry Annexure-V if you claim the relaxation.

Weight is settled at the detailed medical examination, not at the physical standard test. Distant vision is 6/6 and 6/9 without glasses. Near vision is N6 and N9. Colour vision is CP III. Colour blindness, knock knees, flat foot, varicose veins and squint are not accepted. The tattoo rule matches the other ITBP notice: religious symbol or name, inner left forearm or the back of the hand, smaller than a quarter of that part.

Fee

UR, OBC and EWS candidates pay Rs 100 online. Scheduled Caste candidates and ex-servicemen do not pay. The fee is not refunded.

The order of tests

This is the point that changes how you prepare the file of certificates. You need them at the centre on the physical-test day, because documentation is Phase II, before the written paper.

Phase I is the physical efficiency test, qualifying, with no marks and no appeal. Men run 1.6 km in 7 minutes 30 seconds, long jump 11 feet in three chances, and high jump 3.5 feet in three chances. Ex-servicemen do not run or jump. They do the physical standard test, documentation, the written paper, the skill test and the medical examination.

Height and chest are measured next. An appeal is made in writing the same day. The presiding officer re-measures and the decision is final. Leaving without the rejection slip is recorded.

Candidates who pass the measurement then produce original certificates: education, the diploma or the experience certificate, matriculation, category certificate, no-objection certificate if you are in service, height relaxation certificate if you claim it, a citizenship document, discharge certificate for ex-servicemen, and four photographs. West Pakistani refugees in Jammu and Kashmir use Annexure-IV. Fail this stage and you do not get a written-exam admit card.

The written paper is 100 marks in 2 hours, at 12th standard. General knowledge is 10, mathematics is 10, Hindi or English is 20, and trade theory is 60. You choose one language for those 20 questions. You do not attempt both. Qualifying marks are 35 percent for General, EWS and ex-servicemen, and 33 percent for SC and OBC (NCL). After the written result, ten times the category-wise vacancies are called for a practical test of 50 marks. Vehicle inspection is 10, identification of faults is 10, rectification of defects is 25, and handling of tools is 5. Every category needs 50 percent. The test is qualifying. Merit is still the written score. There is no reserve list. A tie goes to the older candidate, then to the name that comes first in the English alphabet.

The detailed medical examination uses the MHA guidelines for CAPFs and Assam Rifles. Unfit candidates can consent to a review within 24 hours. There is no temporary-unfit category and no second appeal.

Service after selection

You serve at least 10 years. Resigning earlier means refunding three months' pay and allowances, or the cost of training, whichever is higher. Basic training follows. There is no travel allowance to the recruitment centre. Plan to stay more than one day at your own cost. The certificate that fails people at documentation

Documentation on this post is before the written exam. The board is not checking a story. It is checking a paper.

If you are the diploma route, the document is a three-year diploma in Automobile Engineering from a recognised institute. A diploma in mechanical engineering, or a one-year certificate course that uses the word automobile, is not the line the notice prints. Take the diploma, the mark sheets and the institute's recognition proof if the name on the diploma is not obvious.

If you are the certificate route, two things have to sit together. A motor mechanic certificate from a recognised institution or an ITI, and three years of practical experience in the trade in a reputed workshop. The notice does not say the three years can be unpaid helping at home, and it does not say a certificate alone is enough. The experience certificate should name you, the workshop, the trade, the dates, and the person authorised to sign. A certificate that says "he worked with us" and gives no dates will be argued on the day, which is a bad day to argue. Get the dates in writing before 27 October, because the certificate has to exist by the time the board asks, and the closing date is also the date by which eligibility is fixed.

10+2 is separate. A candidate with the ITI and the experience, and without 10+2, does not meet the printed qualification. Carry the 10+2 certificate, not only the ITI.

What to carry on the physical day

A print of the online form and, when it is issued, the admit card. The same photographs you uploaded. Matriculation for the date of birth. 10+2. The diploma or the mechanic certificate plus the experience certificate. Category certificate in the annexure, if you claim one, including the OBC non-creamy layer declaration. EWS certificate valid for 2025-26, if you claim it. Annexure-V if you want the lower height or chest. No-objection certificate if you are already a government servant. Discharge certificate if you are an ex-serviceman. A domicile, PAN, Aadhaar, driving licence or voter card for citizenship. Water and a change of clothes for the 1.6 km run. Mehndi and wax off the fingers. No travel allowance is paid, and the notice tells you to be ready to stay more than one day at your own cost.

Do not carry a phone into the written exam later. On the physical ground, follow the board's instruction. A phone that stops a biometric check, or that is found in the exam hall, is listed among the malpractice grounds.
