As of 7 November 2026, Indian Bank is accepting online applications for 1,500 apprentice seats for 2026-27. Any graduate who passed between 1 April 2022 and 1 November 2026 and is 20 to 28 years old on 1 November 2026 can apply from 5 to 25 November 2026. The stipend is Rs 15,000 a month in cities and Rs 12,300 in rural branches for 12 months.

You must register on the NATS 2.0 portal before you fill the bank's form.

What is the Indian Bank Apprentice scheme?

Indian Bank, a public sector bank headquartered in Chennai, engages graduates as apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Apprentices work in branches for one year, handle customer queries, account opening, KYC, cash and digital banking support, and learn how a branch runs.

It is training, not a job. But for a fresh graduate preparing for IBPS, SBI or RRB exams, a year inside a bank branch is strong practical preparation, and the certificate counts as relevant experience for many private-sector banking roles.

How many seats are there?

Total: 1,500 (tentative). Category-wise: UR 676, OBC 348, SC 252, EWS 142 and ST 82. A further 48 seats are reserved horizontally for PwBD candidates within the total (VI 12, HI 12, OH 13, ID 11).

How to prepare

With 1,500 seats and lakhs of graduates eligible, the online test decides most of the outcome.

  • General awareness (25 marks): focus on banking terms, RBI policy rates, government schemes and the last six months of current affairs.
  • English (25): reading comprehension, error spotting and fill-ups. Read one editorial daily.
  • Quant (25): simplification, percentages, ratio, profit and loss, and data interpretation.
  • Reasoning (15): puzzles, seating, syllogism and inequality.
  • Computer (10): basics of hardware, MS Office, internet and shortcuts.

The pattern is close to bank clerk prelims, so IBPS Clerk practice papers are useful.

Common mistakes

  • Filling the bank form without first completing the NATS profile
  • Choosing a state whose language you cannot read or write
  • Applying with a degree result declared after 1 November 2026
  • Applying after already doing an apprenticeship under NATS or NAPS
