Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission has opened Advertisement No. 65/10-2026 for three unreserved Scientific Officer posts in the Directorate of Forensic Services, Home Department. These are Group-B job trainees at Rs 28,000 per month, not a pay-matrix appointment. Apply on hppsc.hp.gov.in/hppsc for 65/10-2026 only. The form closes at 11:59 pm on 3 November 2026.

Chemical sciences, not a generic M.Sc.
You need at least second class in M.Sc. Forensic Science with chemical-sciences specialisation, dissertation, course work or project work in the degree, or second class M.Sc. Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Pharmacy, M.S. (Pharm.) or M.Pharm. Then three years of post-qualification research, training and analytical work. The experience certificate must be signed by the research supervisor or the head of the organisation. Ph.D. research done to complete the degree counts toward those three years. A Ph.D. is only desirable, with knowledge of Himachal customs and dialects.
Age is 18 to 45 on 1 January 2026. Bonafide Himachali status is required to claim state reservation. Reserved-category candidates from other States are treated as general.
Same-day papers if the field is large
If eligible candidates are more than six times the three posts, HPPSC holds:
- Screening Test: 100 marks, objective, negative marking (one fourth). Himachal Pradesh GK 30, national and international affairs 30, Hindi 20, English 20.
- Subject Aptitude Test: 120 marks, descriptive, the same day.
- Then a personality test. Centre named in the advertisement: Shimla.
If candidates are six times the posts or fewer, everyone eligible may be called directly to the personality test.
Fee and trainee status
Fee is Rs 600 for every candidate, any category. The engagement is a job trainee appointment under Per(AP)-C-B(15)-3/2024 dated 19 July 2025. It is not a regular pay-band post.

Educational Qualification
- At least second class M.Sc. in Forensic Science with specialisation, dissertation, course work or project work in Chemical Sciences, from a recognised university, or
- At least second class M.Sc. in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Pharmacy, M.S. (Pharm.) or M.Pharm. from a recognised university.
- Minimum three years of post-qualification experience in research, training and analytical work in those subjects, on a certificate signed by the research supervisor or the head of the organisation. Ph.D. research work done to complete the degree counts toward the three years.
