Paper-I is 200 marks in 2 hours and only shortlists for Paper-II. Paper-II is 100 questions, 300 marks. Vacancies, organisations and eligibility are on the SSC JE 2026 recruitment page. The scheme below is from paras 13, 14 and 18 of F. No. HQ-C-3019/1/2026-C-3.

Paper-I sits on 2 to 6 November 2026. Paper-II is still listed as December 2026. If you have already applied, this page is the two papers, the part you locked, the two penalties and what you carry into the hall. Paper-I is on 2 to 6 November 2026. Paper-II is still listed as December 2026. A later single-day Paper-II date has not been published on ssc.gov.in. Do not wait for Paper-I marks to start the 300-mark notes. Tentative keys after Paper-I cost Rs 50 a question to challenge, not refunded.

Paper-I

Computer-based, objective, Hindi and English, 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes with a scribe).

B ElectricalJE (Electrical)
C MechanicalJE (Mechanical)
D Computer Science and IT, E Electronics and Telecommunication, or F PhysicsScientific Assistant, IMD
G TelecommunicationJE (Telecom), DoT

Parts A to F run in one batch. Part-G (Telecom) runs in a separate batch. The subject locked in the form cannot be changed. Negative marking: 0.25 a wrong answer.

Paper-I is qualifying. You need the minimum in para 18.1, then enough normalised marks to be shortlisted category-wise.

Paper-II

Computer-based, objective, Hindi and English, 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes with a scribe). 100 questions, 300 marks in the same part you chose. Negative marking: 1 mark a wrong answer.

A scientific calculator, and IS 456:2000 and steam tables where needed, appear on the screen. You cannot carry a physical calculator or printed tables.

Civil, Mechanical and Electrical are about diploma standard. Computer Science, Electronics, Physics and Telecom (Part-G) are about graduation standard.

Topic list

General Intelligence and Reasoning: verbal and non-verbal items: analogies, similarities, differences, space visualisation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision-making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, number series, abstract ideas and symbols, arithmetical computations.

General Awareness: environment and its application to society, current events, everyday science, and India and its neighbours, especially history, culture, geography, economy, general polity and scientific research. The notice says these do not need a special study of any discipline.

Engineering and science parts (indicative, para 14). The notice prints fuller sub-topics under each Paper-II heading. Use those headings, not a coaching book's extra chapters.

Part-A, Civil and Structural. Paper-I headings: engineering mechanics, solid mechanics, structural analysis, construction materials and management, estimating, costing and valuation, concrete structures, steel structures, surveying, soil mechanics, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, hydrology and irrigation, environmental engineering, transportation. Paper-II adds the same heads with sub-topics: free-body diagrams and friction; BM and SF in determinate beams; slope deflection and moment distribution; PERT and CPM; working-stress and limit-state RCC and steel; chain, compass, plane table, levelling and total station; three-phase soil system, consolidation and shear strength; pipe flow and hydraulic jump; hydrologic cycle, precipitation, evaporation and evapo-transpiration; water and wastewater, air pollution and municipal solid waste; highway pavements and traffic engineering. The notice prints still more lines under hydrology, irrigation, environmental and transportation. Tick those heads in the PDF. Do not add a coaching chapter that the notice does not name.

Part-B, Electrical: fundamentals, magnetic circuits, AC fundamentals, measuring instruments, electrical machines, special machines and synchronous generators, generation, transmission and distribution, estimation and costing, utilisation of electrical energy, basic electronics and power electronics. Paper-II uses the same heads at a higher mark weight. Networks, machines and power systems carry more questions than costing.

Part-C, Mechanical: engineering mechanics, strength of materials, theory of machines, machine design, materials science, thermal engineering, fluid mechanics and hydraulic machinery, industrial engineering, manufacturing, metrology and advanced manufacturing. Paper-II again uses those heads. SOM, TOM, thermal and fluid machinery are the ones that decide a 300-mark paper.

Part-D, Computer Science and IT: engineering mathematics, digital logic, computer organisation, programming and data structures, algorithms, theory of computation, compiler design, operating system, databases, computer networks.

Part-E, Electronics and Telecommunication: electronic materials, diodes, transistors, amplifiers, network theorems, digital electronics, antennas, radio-wave propagation, modulation and digital communication.

Part-F, Physics: mathematical methods, mechanics, properties of matter, oscillations, waves, optics, electricity and magnetism, kinetic theory, thermodynamics, modern physics, solid state, semiconductor devices, analogue and digital electronics.

Part-G, Telecommunication: engineering mathematics, network analysis, signals and systems, electronic devices, analogue and digital circuits, control systems, analogue and digital communications, electromagnetics.

An IMD candidate who revises Civil is on the wrong paper. A DoT Telecom candidate sits Part-G, not Part-E, unless that is what the form locked.

How merit is made

CategoryMinimum in Paper-I and Paper-II
UR30 percent
OBC, EWS25 percent
All other categories20 percent
  1. Paper-I shortlists for Paper-II. Separate lists for Civil, Electrical and Mechanical, Scientific Assistant and Telecom.
  2. Multi-shift marks are normalised (SSC notice dated 2 June 2025). Electrical and Mechanical papers for common posts are also normalised against each other. IMD Parts D, E and F are treated as different shifts.
  3. Final merit is normalised Paper-II only.
  4. There is no re-evaluation. A challenge to the tentative key costs Rs 50 a question, not refunded, and only through the on-site form.

Exam day

SSC uploads city details about 10 days before the paper and the admit card 2 to 3 days before your shift, on the regional website named on your application. Print the admission certificate. Carry two recent photographs and a photo ID whose date of birth matches the admit card. If the ID has no date of birth, carry the class 10 certificate. Candidates who skipped Aadhaar authentication report two hours early.

You cannot take a physical calculator, printed IS codes or steam tables into the hall. Those tools, where the paper needs them, are on the screen. Practise a scientific calculator on a computer this week so you are not slower on the day.

Listed photo IDs: voter ID, driving licence, PAN, passport, college ID, employer ID, ESM discharge book, or another Central or State photo ID. If the ID has no date of birth, carry the class 10 certificate. A mismatch on date of birth keeps you out.

Scribe rules follow paras 9.1 to 9.3. Eligible candidates get 2 hours 40 minutes.

How to prepare

You have about three weeks to Paper-I.

Week 1. Finish the 100-mark engineering part first. That is half of Paper-I and the whole of Paper-II. Work from the notice headings, not from a new book. For Civil, that means SOM, RCC, steel, soil, fluid mechanics and surveying before environmental extras. For Electrical, networks, machines and power systems. For Mechanical, SOM, TOM, thermal and fluid machinery.

Week 2. Keep the 100-mark engineering part going. Then add 30 minutes of series, coding and figure classification, because Paper-I still has 50 reasoning marks you can fail. GA is the SSC general paper: last six months of national science and polity, plus static India. It is not an engineering magazine.

Week 3. Timed 200-question Paper-I sets. Practise the on-screen calculator. In Paper-I, a blind guess on four options with a 0.25 penalty averages zero. In Paper-II the penalty is 1 mark against 3, so guess only when you can drop at least one option.

Do not wait for Paper-I results to start Paper-II notes. The same part is used again at a higher mark weight. BRO applicants should also read Annexure-XVI now; failing those physical standards after allotment is not repaired by a new preference.

Document verification, when the user department calls you, needs mark sheets for every year or semester, the degree or diploma, and experience certificates where the post asked for them. The result date on those papers must be on or before 22 September 2026. Mere processing of a result by that date is not enough. BRO candidates also take the Annexure-XVI physical and medical tests. Fail those after allotment and SSC will not reallocate you.

Ten questions on the dates and the qualifying-paper rule are on the practice page.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Paper-I is qualifying. Normalised Paper-I marks only decide who sits Paper-II. Final merit uses normalised Paper-II marks only.

0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I and 1 mark for each wrong answer in Paper-II. A blank answer has no penalty.
