Posts, eligibility and dates are on the recruitment page. This page is the selection scheme in Advertisement No. PHQ (B-II)RECT/CONSTABLES(GD)/WP(C)/2026/819 of 14 October 2026.
How the 100 marks split
| Stage | Marks | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Physical and medical standards | 0 | Screening. Fail and you are out. |
| Physical Efficiency Test (PET) | 45 | Scored. Also a 1:10 shortlist for the written test. |
| Written test | 40 | Scored. With PET, a 1:3 shortlist for interview. |
| Interview | 10 | Scored |
| NCC certificate | 5 | Bonus marks if you hold one |
PET comes before the written test. If you fail any one PET event, you never see the paper. So for most candidates, the order of preparation is body first, then books.
PET mark bands
Run (20 marks)
| Men, 3 km | Marks | Women, 2 km | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Within 10:30 | 20 | Within 10:00 | 20 |
| 10:31 to 11:30 | 15 | Within 11:00 | 15 |
| 11:31 to 12:30 | 10 | Within 12:00 | 10 |
| Slower than 12:30 | Disqualified | Slower than 12:00 | Disqualified |
Pull-ups (15 marks)
| Men | Marks | Women | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 | 15 | 10 | 15 |
| 12 | 12 | 8 | 12 |
| 9 | 9 | 6 | 9 |
| 6 | 6 | 3 | 6 |
| Below 6 | Disqualified | Below 3 | Disqualified |
High jump (5 marks): men 4 feet, women 3 feet. Clear it on the first attempt for 5, second for 3, third for 1. Three misses disqualify.
Long jump (5 marks): men 12 feet, women 10 feet. Same 5, 3, 1 scale over three attempts.
The board makes a PET merit list at 1:10 of the vacancies for each tribe and gender. A strong run and pull-up score is what gets you to the paper in a crowded tribe and district.
Where the marks are: a man who runs 3 km in 11:00 (15), does 12 pull-ups (12) and clears both jumps first time (10) has 37 of 45. Dropping to 12:00 on the run costs 5 marks. On pull-ups, each band is three repetitions apart and worth 3 marks, so steady strength work pays directly.
Written test
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Questions | 80 MCQs |
| Marks | 40 (half a mark each) |
| Time | 2 hours |
| Language | English only |
| Negative marking | Not mentioned |
Topics printed in the advertisement: General Awareness, General Knowledge, Science, Indian History, Indian Polity, Social Sciences, Elementary Mathematics, Sports, Naga Culture and Heritage, Nagaland State and Naga Tribes, and General Mental Aptitude.
The education bar is Class 8 (Class 6 for Backward Tribes), so expect questions at roughly that school level. The Nagaland-specific blocks are where local candidates can score heavily: statehood, districts, tribes and their festivals, the Hornbill Festival, Naga history and customary practices, and the state's government and geography.
Mental aptitude at this level usually means series, odd one out, simple coding, direction and analogy. Elementary maths means arithmetic: percentages, averages, simple interest, ratio, time and distance, area and perimeter.
Two hours for 80 questions is generous. Use the extra time to read every English question twice. If you studied in a local or Hindi medium, practise reading questions in English from week one.
Interview and NCC
The interview list is drawn at 1:3 on PET plus written marks. The interview carries 10 marks. Carry every original document. Without them you are not allowed into the interview.
NCC marks are added straight to your total: C certificate 5, B certificate 3, A certificate 2.
Final merit is the aggregate of PET, written, interview and NCC, separately for each district, tribe and gender.
