A wrong answer costs one fourth of the marks of that question. A blank answer has no penalty. IBPS will set a minimum score in each test and an overall cutoff after the exam.
Each section is timed on its own. Time left in Reasoning cannot be used for Hindi. General Awareness is 50 questions in 20 minutes. A wrong Hindi answer costs 0.375 marks.
IBPS can change this pattern on ibps.in. The exam may be held at IBPS, Mumbai, or at centres listed in Annexure I. A centre change is not allowed.
Syllabus for each section
Reasoning (English). Number series, coding-decoding, direction, inequality, and short logic sets. 50 questions, 25 marks, 35 minutes.
English Language. Grammar, usage, synonyms, and sentences with one clear meaning. 50 questions, 50 marks, 35 minutes.
General Awareness (English). Banking, RBI, payments, and the financial articles of the Constitution, plus current events from the months before the exam. 50 questions, 50 marks, 20 minutes. Use RBI press releases for the current portion.
Hindi Language. Spelling, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, and correct sentences. 50 questions, 75 marks, 50 minutes. Also practise a short English-to-Hindi translation and a short Hindi-to-English translation for the skill test.
Skill test and interview
Shortlisted candidates are called to Mumbai for a skill test and item-writing exercise, group exercises, and an interview. The work is translation of examination questions both ways, and writing Hindi objective and descriptive questions, in MS Word and Excel.
Before that stage, translate one short notice both ways and write five Hindi multiple-choice questions with one clear answer.
Documents to carry: call letter, application print, class 10 certificate, photo identity, address proof, degree marksheets, and experience letters with dates and duties. A serving government or public-sector employee needs a no-objection certificate in original.
How to prepare
Online registration closes on 6 October 2026. The exam date will be on ibps.in.
- Reasoning: 50 questions in 35 minutes. A wrong answer costs 0.125.
- English: 50 questions in 35 minutes.
- General Awareness: 50 questions in 20 minutes.
- Hindi: spelling, idioms, sentence correction, and one translation a day.
