The Coast Guard selects through four stages, but only Stage I gives you marks that count. Posts, zones and eligibility are on the CGEPT 01/27 and 02/27 recruitment page.

Four stages, one score

StageWhat happensCounts for merit?
IComputer-based exam, identity check, thumb biometricYes, the only stage that does

IIIAadhaar-based identity check, documents, pre-enrolment medical, police verification, at INS ChilkaNo
IVBoard and university authentication of your documentsNo

The tentative calendar: Stage I in early to mid November 2026, Stage II at the end of February 2027, Stage III in early May 2027 for batch 01/27 and mid October 2027 for 02/27.

Stage I computer test

  • 100 questions, 1 mark each, in 60 minutes. That is 36 seconds a question.
  • Bilingual, Hindi and English, multiple choice.
  • No negative marking. Answer every question.
  • Pass marks: 40 for UR, EWS and OBC; 35 for SC and ST.
  • Marks are normalised if the test runs in more than one shift.
  • The detailed syllabus is published on the portal, not in the advertisement. Check it there before you plan.

Stage I is also where your left thumb is captured. Mehndi or wax that stops the scanner means you are not allowed to sit. That thumbprint is checked again at every later stage.

Stage II: five checks in 1 to 2 days

Shortlisting for Stage II depends on your Stage I score and how many people each centre can handle. After shortlisting, you upload extra documents and pick a date and centre, first come, first served.

  1. Identity and biometric check at the gate.
  2. Physical fitness test. Men: 1.6 km in 6 min 30 s, 20 squats, 15 push-ups, 15 bent-knee sit-ups. Women: 8 min, 15, 10 and 10. All four in a row with no break.
  3. Assessment and adaptability test, online or on OMR, qualifying. The result is announced at the venue.
  4. Document verification. Name, date of birth, parent's name and subject-wise marks must match the form. Every document must be dated on or before the closing date and valid to at least 31 December 2027.
  5. Recruitment medical. If you are declared unfit, you can appeal at a designated military hospital within 14 days. The appeal result is final.

Tie-break on equal Stage I marks: the older candidate ranks higher, then the one with more assessment-test marks.

Stage III at INS Chilka

Candidates in merit for the vacancies report to INS Chilka, the naval training base in Odisha, for 1 to 2 days. Aadhaar changes to name, date of birth or appearance in the last two years are scrutinised. You need a police verification obtained after the application closing date, from your domicile or present residence. Adverse remarks bar enrolment. A pre-enrolment medical may be repeated, with appeals at INHS Nivarini or INHS Kalyani within five working days.

Stage IV and after

Your certificates are sent to the issuing boards, universities and state authorities. A document found not genuine leads to termination, even after enrolment.

Height, chest, vision, tattoo and dental standards are listed on the recruitment page. The GD branch does not accept candidates who wear glasses. Check these before you apply, because they are tested at Stage II and again at INS Chilka.

The practice set runs at Stage I's 36-seconds-a-question pace.
