Exam pattern
Every paper has 150 questions, 150 marks and 2 hours 30 minutes. Each question has five choices, A, B, C, D and E.

Language in Part I is qualifying. For classes 1 to 5 you choose English and one of Hindi, Urdu or Bangla. For classes 6 to 12 the language choice is English and one of Hindi, Urdu or Bangla, and Part I needs at least 30 percent.
What each part covers
Part I tests working knowledge of the language you choose.
Part II, for classes 1 to 5, is general studies at primary level: elementary mathematics, a mental ability test, general awareness, general science, social science, the Indian national movement, geography and environment. For classes 6 to 12, Part II is general studies at the level fixed for that class, and it includes elementary mathematics, general awareness, general science, the Indian national movement and geography. The advertisement says the questions stay within SCERT and NCERT, while the minimum qualification of the candidate is kept in view.
Part III, for classes 6 to 12, is one subject chosen from the list for that level. For classes 6 to 8 the list includes mathematics, science, social science, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit and English. For classes 9 to 10 it includes Hindi, English, science, mathematics, social science, Sanskrit, Urdu, physical education and music. For classes 11 to 12 it includes the higher secondary subjects printed in the advertisement, from physics and chemistry to history, computer science and the languages. If you choose social science, Section I is one of history, geography, political science or economics, and Section II is one of geography, economics or political science, and the two sections cannot be the same subject.
Subject questions are also kept within SCERT and NCERT, at the level of that class.
Negative marking
A wrong answer costs one third of a mark. If you do not want to answer, you must mark option E. If you leave every option blank, the question is treated as unanswered and one third of a mark is cut. Option E does not carry that cut.
Qualifying marks
The written exam uses these minimum marks, as printed with the recruitment rules for school teachers:

Women candidates who are original residents of Bihar get a 5 percent relaxation in the minimum marks under the order cited in the advertisement, and the floor for them is 32 percent.
If you apply for more than one class, the Commission follows the preference order printed in the advertisement. A candidate is considered for the next preference only if the earlier one is not successful.
