What we know and what we chose
From Advt 01/2026: the CBE is set "in their respective trades", marks are counted out of 100 for shortlisting, the floor is 40% for UR and EWS and 30% for OBC (NCL), SC and ST, and the paper can be taken in Hindi, English, Kannada, Telugu or Tamil.
Not printed: the number of questions, the time and any negative marking.
So this mock uses:
| Section | Questions |
|---|---|
| Fitter trade theory | 60 |
| Workshop calculation and science | 20 |
| Engineering drawing | 10 |
| Safety | 10 |
| Total | 100 |
The split follows the ITI Fitter course, which is what your NTC and NAC cover. Time is 90 minutes on one clock. There is no negative marking. If BHEL publishes a pattern on careers.bhel.in, we will update this mock to match.

Reading your score
40 or more: above the UR and EWS floor. The real rank comes from your CBE score, because the skill test only qualifies, so aim well above the floor.
30 to 39: above the floor for OBC (NCL), SC and ST, below it for UR and EWS. Go back to measuring instruments, threads and fits. Those carry many marks here.
Below 30: start with workshop calculation. Formula questions like cutting speed, Ohm's law and gear ratio are the fastest marks to win back.
Look at the trade theory score on its own. With 60 of 100 marks, it decides your result more than anything else.
Frequently Asked Questions
BHEL has not printed the question count or duration in Advt 01/2026. It says CBE marks are counted out of 100, so this mock has 100 one-mark questions. The 90-minute time is our choice for practice.
This mock is for Fitter. The workshop calculation, drawing and safety sections apply to every trade, so other trades can use those 40 questions now.
