NLU Odisha Assistant Registrar and Section Officer Recruitment 2026

Overview

National Law University Odisha, Cuttack, has invited applications for five administrative posts on contract. The advertisement number is NLUO/NTR-03/27.09.2026. The Google Form and the hard copy both have to be in by 5:00 pm on 31 October 2026.

The university was established by Odisha Act IV of 2008. The posts are unreserved. They are not open to a candidate who is still in service, and they are not open to a fresh graduate. The person must already have retired.

The two posts

The employer at retirement can be the Government of Odisha, the Government of India, or a reputed autonomous institution. The pay level that counts is the Odisha level printed above. A person who retired in Level 10 applies for Section Officer. A person who retired in Level 11 applies for Assistant Registrar. The advertisement does not say that one application covers both posts.

"Pay minus pension" is the second method, used if the selection committee recommends it. The consolidated figure is then reduced by the pension the person draws. The advertisement also says that no other allowance will be paid. Do not add house rent or dearness allowance in your own calculation. The committee has not yet said which method it will use for a given candidate.

Degree, drafting, and the computer

Both posts ask for a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised university, with at least 55 percent or an equivalent grade on the UGC seven-point scale. The subject of the degree is not restricted to law.

The work named in the eligibility note is drafting, noting, correspondence, office procedure, and government rules, plus basic computer applications. The same note says direct recruits are expected to work in a computerised office and are required to qualify a skill test. The newspaper advertisement itself says that only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview, and that no TA or DA is paid for the interview.

There is no printed vacancy for a person above 65, and no printed relaxation below the degree percentage.

How the application is actually finished

Two things have to happen, and the advertisement lists both.

First, submit the Google Form from the career section of www.nluo.ac.in. The form on the page is titled for Assistant Registrar and Section Officer (retired government employees).

Second, print that form, attach the supporting documents and the proof of qualifications and experience, and send the set to the Registrar, National Law University Odisha, Naraj Road, Sector 13, CDA, Cuttack 753015. It must reach the office on or before 31 October 2026 at 5:00 pm. A form that is still in the post on that evening has not reached. Send it so the packet arrives, and keep the postal receipt.

Other details sit on the same career page: the job profile, and a separate eligibility note for each post. The university says updates will be on the website and that no separate communication will be sent. Shortlisted names, if published, will be there.

What to put in the packet

The advertisement asks for proof of qualifications and experience. From the eligibility note, that means the degree with the percentage, the retirement proof, the pay level held at retirement, and something that shows drafting and noting work in government. The computer claim will be tested if you are called. A packet that proves the degree and says nothing about the post you retired from leaves the level condition unchecked.

Pay minus pension, in numbers the advertisement allows

The advertisement prints two figures and one method. It does not print your pension, so nobody outside the committee can tell you the rupee you will draw. What you can check today is the arithmetic, so the interview does not surprise you.

Assistant Registrar: consolidated pay of Rs 35,000, or pay minus pension if the committee recommends that method. Section Officer: Rs 20,000, or the same method. "No other allowances will be paid."

Suppose the committee uses pay minus pension, and suppose a retired officer draws a pension of Rs 18,000. On the Assistant Registrar figure, 35,000 minus 18,000 is Rs 17,000 from the university, and the pension continues from the government that pays it. On the Section Officer figure, 20,000 minus 18,000 is Rs 2,000 from the university. If the pension is higher than the consolidated pay, ask the committee how it will apply the method. The advertisement does not describe a negative pay. Do not assume a floor that is not printed, and do not assume dearness allowance will be added to repair it. The sentence on allowances is plain.

If the committee stays with the consolidated figure and does not use pay minus pension, the university side is Rs 35,000 or Rs 20,000, and the pension is a separate matter between you and the government that sanctioned it. Which method applies is the committee's recommendation, not a choice you tick on the Google Form. The form does not print that tick.

What the packet should prove

The Registrar's office has to be able to tick four things without phoning you. The advertisement says no separate communication will be made.

Age not above 65. The date of birth on the service record or the matriculation certificate does that.

Retirement from the Government of Odisha, the Government of India, or a reputed autonomous institution, and the pay level at retirement. For Assistant Registrar that level is 11, 12, 13 or 14 of the Government of Odisha. For Section Officer it is 7, 8, 9 or 10. A last pay slip that shows the level is stronger than a paragraph in which you assert it. If you retired on the central matrix, add the page that lets a reader see the correspondence you are claiming. The note itself speaks of Odisha levels.

A bachelor's degree at 55 percent or the equivalent UGC grade. Attach the degree and the mark sheet or the grade conversion. A degree without the percentage leaves the 55 percent line unchecked.

Experience of drafting, noting and office procedure. The eligibility note asks for it. A retirement order does not describe the work. A service certificate that names the sections, or a short annexure in your own words listing the kinds of drafts you handled, gives the shortlisting person something to read. Do not attach confidential file notings. Describe the type of case.

Keep a copy of the whole packet and the postal receipt. The last date is the date of reaching the office, 31 October 2026 at 5:00 pm, at the Registrar, National Law University Odisha, Naraj Road, Sector 13, CDA, Cuttack 753015.
