IBPS ran CRP PO/MT-XVI for Probationary Officer / Management Trainee posts in participating public-sector banks, for vacancies of 2027-28. The detailed notification is dated 1 July 2026.
Annexure I printed 6,715 indicative posts. Indian Bank, UCO Bank and Union Bank of India were marked NR. IBPS later uploaded updated vacancy files on 20 July 2026 and 27 August 2026. This page does not reprint those later bank-wise totals, because the files sit behind the IBPS listing rather than a stable public URL we can quote line by line. Use the latest file on the IBPS PO/MT-XVI page.
Prelims were on 22 and 23 August 2026. Mains was on 4 October 2026. That date has passed. Next, as printed: mains result in November, a mandatory personality test in November, interview in November or December, allotment in January 2027. As of 16 October 2026 the mains result is not on the CRP updates page.
This is not IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I and not IBPS Clerk (Customer Service Associate). Those are separate CRPs. The RRB officer paper is on the Scale-I page. If you sat the 4 October mains, the rest of this page is the result window, the personality test, the interview file and the frozen bank list. The 1 July annexure printed 6,715 posts. Later IBPS files of 20 July and 27 August changed some bank rows. Print the latest annexure from the IBPS PO/MT-XVI page and take that sheet to the interview, not a screenshot of the 1 July table. The personality test is mandatory even though it is not qualifying. IBPS will not share mains scores until the interview process is over. Watch the CRP updates page twice a week in November, not a forwarded PDF.
What a probationary officer does
A PO or MT joins as a junior officer in a public-sector bank. After training you rotate through deposits, advances, foreign exchange and operations. You can be posted anywhere in India. The bank that finally takes you decides medical fitness, service rules and confirmation.
Participating banks in the 1 July annexure:
| Bank | Indicative posts in Annexure I (1 July 2026) |
|---|---|
| Bank of Baroda | 1,900 |
| Canara Bank | 1,500 |
| Bank of Maharashtra | 1,100 |
| Indian Overseas Bank | 550 |
| Punjab National Bank | 504 |
| Bank of India | 500 |
| Central Bank of India | 500 |
| Punjab and Sind Bank | 161 |
| Indian Bank | Not reported |
| UCO Bank | Not reported |
| Union Bank of India | Not reported |
| Printed total | 6,715 |
The order of bank preference you locked in the form cannot be changed.
Basic pay starts at Rs 48,480 in the scale printed in the notice, plus the allotted bank's DA, HRA and other allowances.
Who was eligible
Age 20 to 30 on 1 July 2026. A degree in any discipline, result declared on or before 21 July 2026. There is no ESM reservation in the officers' cadre, though listed ex-servicemen still get age relaxation.
The registration window in the notice was 1 to 21 July 2026. The portal listed closure on 26 July 2026, with an edit window on 29 and 30 July. The print window on the portal later ran to 8 October 2026. All of those windows have closed.
Where the process stands
| Stage | Status on 16 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Online form | Closed |
| Preliminary examination (22 and 23 August) | Held. Only a filter. Those marks do not join the final list. |
| Main examination (4 October) | Held. 170 objective questions, 200 marks, 160 minutes, plus a 30-minute, 25-mark descriptive paper (essay and comprehension). |
| Main result | Not declared. Printed as November 2026. |
| Personality test | Not yet called. Mandatory. Not qualifying. The profile goes to the interview panel. |
| Interview | 100 marks. Floor 40 percent (35 percent for SC, ST, OBC, PwBD). Weight 80:20 mains to interview. |
| Provisional allotment | Printed as January 2027. |
A wrong answer on the objective papers cost one-fourth of that question's marks. IBPS will not share mains scores with candidates until the interview process is over.
If you sat the mains, another full 170-question mock is not the priority unless IBPS announces a re-test. The mains pattern, the descriptive topics and an interview plan are on the syllabus page. Ten questions on dates, 80:20 and the personality-test rule are on the practice page.
If you sat the mains
Watch one page. Results, the personality-test link and the interview call letter come only from ibps.in and the CRP updates list. IBPS also sends email and SMS to the address and number on the form. A change of mobile or email after registration is how people miss the call.
Personality test. A self-report. Mandatory. Non-qualifying. It may be proctored at home or held at a centre. Answer it as you actually work. The interview panel will have the profile. A mismatch with the story you tell in the room is worse than a modest inventory.
Interview documents. The notice asks for originals and copies, including:
- Interview call letter, once issued.
- System-generated print of the CRP PO/MT-XVI form.
- Degree with a result date on or before 21 July 2026, plus mark sheets. Convert CGPA with the university's own formula.
- Class 10 for date of birth.
- Photo ID that matches the form.
- Central-format SC, ST, OBC or EWS papers. OBC (NCL) must be issued on or after 1 April 2026. EWS should be valid for 2026-27 (financial year 2025-26).
- NOC if you are already in government or a PSU bank. It must not be written for one bank only.
- Serving defence personnel need a release certificate dated on or before 20 July 2027.
Start that file this week. Candidates lose interview days because an OBC certificate is still in a state format, or the NOC names one bank.
Interview itself. One hundred marks. Floor 40 percent, or 35 percent for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD. Two minutes on who you are, why a public-sector bank, why the bank you ranked first, and whether you will serve in a rural branch. Be ready to explain one balance-sheet item (NPA, CASA, CRR, SLR, repo) without a memorised paragraph. Carry papers in the order the notice lists.
Until the result. Keep a notebook of RBI circulars from the last year, Union Budget headlines, digital-banking products as RBI reports them (UPI, AePS, CBDC), and one page on the bank you ranked first: its head office and one recent scheme. That is the interview, not another DI set.
If you are waiting on a borderline mains score. Do not pay anyone who offers an IBPS marksheet or an allotment. Provisional allotment is printed as January 2027. Preference order of banks is frozen.
What the mains paper was
You cannot change what you wrote on 4 October. You can still read the scheme so the interview panel's questions about "how the exam is marked" do not surprise you.
Objective paper, 160 minutes: Reasoning 40 questions 60 marks 45 minutes; General / Economy / Banking / Digital / Financial Awareness including RBI circulars 50 questions 60 marks 35 minutes; English 40 questions 20 marks 35 minutes; Data Analysis and Interpretation 40 questions 60 marks 45 minutes. Then a 30-minute, 25-mark descriptive paper, essay and comprehension, in English, "broadly based on Economic and Social issues, emerging trends in Banking and Technology, Current events, Ethics etc." IBPS may mark the descriptive paper with a validated automated scoring system.
You needed a minimum in each mains test and a minimum total. Prelims (100 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes, 22 and 23 August) do not join this total.
Reserve list and posting. IBPS keeps a reserve list against later vacancies the banks report. Being on that list is not an offer. Allotment, when it comes, can be anywhere in India in the bank you were given. You cannot reopen the preference order.
Medical and confirmation. IBPS allots. The bank then runs its own medical and its own service rules. A candidate who clears IBPS and fails the bank medical is not slid to the next preference by IBPS. Read the bank's joining letter when it comes. Do not assume every allotted candidate joins on the same day or in the same city.
What not to do while you wait. Do not edit bank preference. Do not pay for a leaked marksheet. Do not skip the personality test because someone said it "does not count". It is mandatory. The panel will have the profile. Watch ibps.in twice a week in November, not a Telegram channel that reprints the same PDF with a new date.
