OAVS Teacher 2026 Syllabus: What to Prepare Before the Detailed Notice
OAVS 2026 has no official syllabus yet. The indicative advertisement gives only the registration window. This page covers the skills every teacher exam tests, and what to wait for before you plan the exact pattern.
Status of the syllabus
The official OAVS advertisement for 815 posts gives the registration window only: 12 October to 11 November 2026, 5:00 PM. It does not give a syllabus, exam pattern, marks, duration or negative marking. Those will come in the detailed notice on oav.edu.in.
This page does not give a pattern because none is official yet. Any question count, marks or part-wise split you see online right now is a guess until the detailed notice is published.
Skills to build now
These skills appear in almost every teacher recruitment test in India. Build them now, and tune the details once the notice is out.
English. Grammar (tenses, modals, voice, narration, subject-verb agreement), vocabulary, idioms, error spotting, sentence improvement and comprehension of short passages. Aim for accurate answers, not speed, until the basics are steady.
Odia. If you will teach in Odia medium, read a short Odia passage each day and write three sentences. Practise grammar at school level. The notice will say whether language skills are tested.
Reasoning. Series, analogies, coding-decoding, classification, blood relations and direction sense. Practise 20 questions a day.
General knowledge. Odisha's geography, history, culture and current affairs, plus the national news of the last six months. Read a monthly digest.
Child development and teaching methods. Stages of development, learning theories, inclusive education, classroom management, assessment (formative and summative) and the basic ideas behind the National Education Policy 2020. These are standard teaching-exam topics.
Your subject. Revise your degree-level subject, with the school curriculum in mind. For a Mathematics teacher, that means algebra, geometry, statistics and probability. For English, literature, grammar and writing.
Teaching demonstration. Be ready to teach a short lesson of five minutes on a topic from your class range, because many teacher interviews ask for one.
Weekly plan until the notice
Week 1. English grammar and vocabulary for 30 minutes a day. Odia reading for 20 minutes a day. Reasoning for 20 minutes a day.
Week 2. General knowledge, with Odisha current affairs. Start your subject revision for 45 minutes a day.
Week 3. Child development and teaching methods. Write one short lesson plan a day for your subject.
Week 4. Take a timed set of 50 mixed questions. Review every error. Check the official site again for the detailed notice.
The practice set gives you mixed questions on these skills. It is not a copy of the OAVS pattern.
After the detailed notice
When the detailed notice is out:
- Read the post-wise table and find your post and subject.
- Check the eligibility, the age reference date and the fee.
- Compare the official pattern with this plan and adjust the time you give each section.
- If the notice gives negative marking, update your guessing rule.

The skills every teacher exam uses: English, reasoning, general knowledge, child development and teaching methods, and your subject at degree level. These will be useful whatever the final pattern is.
Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas teach in English and Odia medium. Build reading and writing ability in Odia now, because a language requirement is likely for teaching posts. Confirm in the detailed notice.
