SSC CHSL Tier-I is 100 questions for 200 marks in 60 minutes, with each of the four parts locked to its own 15-minute timer. The full pattern, qualifying marks and the correction window dates are on the SSC CHSL 2026 syllabus page.

How this set is built

  • Four parts, five questions each, in the notice's order: English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness.
  • 2 marks a question and 0.50 off for a wrong answer, the Tier-I scheme in para 13.8.2.
  • 3 minutes per part. That is 36 seconds a question, the same rate as the real sectional timer. When a part's time runs out, or you submit it, you move to the next part and cannot return, just as in the exam.
  • Every question is original and comes from a topic named in para 13.10. Each one has a worked explanation.

The questions sit at the easier end of the Tier-I range. Use the set to check your pace and how you handle the penalty, not to predict your real score. A real 25-question part will have longer reading and heavier calculation than five questions can show.

The General Awareness questions are static facts on polity, science, geography and history, not current affairs. Current-affairs questions date quickly, and the notice does not name a cut-off period for them.

Reading your score

The maximum is 40 marks. As a rough guide:

  • Below 12 (30 percent): below the UR minimum in para 17.1. Look at which part pulled you down, and start there.
  • 12 to 24: you are clearing the minimum, but real cut-offs for shortlisting to Tier-II sit well above it. Work on speed in your weakest part.
  • Above 24: good accuracy. Now test whether you can keep it over a full 25-question part in 15 minutes.

Count your wrong answers as well as your score. Each wrong answer costs a quarter of a question. If you got more than four wrong in this set, you are guessing too freely for Tier-I, and in Tier-II, where a wrong answer costs 1 mark against 3, the same habit is worse.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. SSC has not held the 2026 Tier-I yet. These are original questions written to the Tier-I topic list in para 13.10 of the notice, at the same marks and penalty.

Each question carries 2 marks and a wrong answer costs 0.50. Four wrong answers cancel one correct answer. A blank question scores zero.

Tier-I has a 15-minute sectional timer for each 25-question part, so 36 seconds a question. This set keeps that pace with 3 minutes for each 5-question part.
