The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the written result of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026. The roll-number list was published on 5 November 2026, and 2,526 candidates have qualified for the Personality Test (Interview). The Mains exam was held from 21 to 30 August 2026.

The most urgent date for qualified candidates is the online form window on upsconline.nic.in, from 11 November to 25 November 2026 (6:00 PM). If you do not submit the form in this window, UPSC will not issue your interview e-summon letter.

What was released

UPSC added two items under What's New on upsc.gov.in: Written Result (a 9-page roll-number PDF of about 319 KB) and Written Result (with name). The PDF opens with a notice that explains what qualified candidates must do next, followed by the roll numbers in ascending order.

The result covers selection for the IAS, IFS (Foreign Service), IPS and the other Central Services, Group A and Group B. It does not include marks. UPSC publishes marks only after the final result.

UPSC usually calls about 2 to 2.5 candidates for every vacancy at the interview stage. With 2,526 names on the list, a little over one in three interviewed candidates can expect a final recommendation if this ratio holds. The final count depends on the vacancies the government reports.

How to check the result

  1. Open upsc.gov.in and click What's New.
  2. Open Written Result: Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026.
  3. Download the PDF.
  4. Press Ctrl+F (or Find on a phone) and type your 7-digit roll number.
  5. If you prefer to search by name, use the Written Result (with name) link.

Keep a copy of the PDF. You will need your roll number for every step that follows.

The 11 to 25 November form window

All qualified candidates must log in at upsconline.nic.in between 11 November and 25 November 2026, up to 6:00 PM, and submit the application form again. This is the step many candidates call DAF-II.

Three points in the notice matter most:

  • Everyone must submit. Even if you have nothing to change, you must log in, check your details and click final submit. If you skip this, no e-summon letter is issued.
  • A reference number confirms submission. After you submit, UPSC sends a unique reference number to your registered email and mobile. Save it.
  • No changes after the window. UPSC says it will not accept requests to change form details later. Only changes of address or contact details can be sent to the Commission.

Do not wait for the last day. The portal slows down in the final 48 hours, and 6:00 PM on 25 November is a hard cut-off.

What must you update?

If you marked your educational qualification as "appearing" when you applied for the Preliminary exam, you must now upload proof that you passed the qualifying degree. If you do not, your candidature will be cancelled and no e-summon letter will be issued.

Other fields to fill or update, where they apply to you:

  • Correspondence and permanent address
  • Higher educational qualification
  • Achievements in different fields
  • Employment details and service experience
  • Service allocated in an earlier Civil Services exam, if any
  • Marital status
  • Parental details
  • Earlier exam and attempt details
  • OBC or EWS annexure
  • Socio-economic questionnaire
  • Service preference and home cadre
  • Disclosure for the Pratibha Setu portal

Service and cadre preferences need the most care. They decide which service you get if you are recommended. Rank only the services you would actually join, and talk to people already in those services before you lock your order.

Documents for the interview

Your candidature is provisional. At the interview you must show the originals of:

  1. Proof of age (Class 10 certificate)
  2. Degree certificate and marksheets
  3. Community certificate (SC, ST or OBC), if claimed
  4. EWS certificate, if claimed
  5. PwBD certificate, if claimed
  6. Any other certificate that supports a relaxation, such as ex-servicemen status
  7. TA form and related papers, if you claim travel allowance

Certificates that support a reservation or relaxation claim must have been issued on or before the closing date of the Preliminary 2026 application. A certificate issued later can lead to rejection of your claim. Check the dates on your certificates now, while you still have time to sort out any problem.

When is the interview?

UPSC has not announced the interview dates. The notice says the schedule and the e-summon letters will be released in due course on upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in. No paper summon letter will be sent.

UPSC also says it will not normally accept requests to change an interview date. Keep your calendar clear from early December, as interviews in recent cycles have started a few weeks after the form window closes and run for about three months.

If you cannot download your e-summon letter, contact UPSC by letter, on 011-40303444 / 011-24041001, or by email at csm-upsc@nic.in.

How to prepare for the Personality Test

The interview carries 275 marks and is added to your Mains written marks (1,750) for the final merit list of 2,025 marks. A good interview can lift you several hundred ranks.

Know your DAF. Most questions come from what you wrote: your name, home district, degree, hobbies, job and service preferences. Write down five possible questions for each line of your form.

Read the news daily. Panels ask about current issues and want a balanced view. Practise giving both sides in under a minute and then your own view.

Prepare your district and state. Expect questions on the economy, problems and recent government schemes in your home district.

Take two or three mock interviews. Use a mock to test your answers, not to memorise them. Panels can tell when an answer is rehearsed.

Be honest. "I don't know, sir" is better than a guess. Panels test integrity as much as knowledge.

What if you did not qualify?

If your roll number is not on the list, you are out of the 2026 cycle. Your Mains marks will be released after the final result, so you can see which papers pulled you down.

Check the UPSC Annual Calendar 2027 for the next Preliminary exam and notification dates. Count your remaining attempts and your age limit before you plan the next year.
