Overview

IIT Kharagpur's Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy cell advertised one Junior Research Fellow on 9 October 2026. Advertisement IIT/SRIC/R/SRT/2026/110 closes on 15 October 2026. There is no application fee.

Official pages: the SRIC view and the one-page PDF. PI: Shailendra Kumar Varshney, Department of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering. Administrative Officer (Projects): Rajarshi Banerjee.

Room-temperature quantum sources, not a generic JRF

The project is Indigenous Development of Quantum Sources (Single photon and Entangled Photon Pair) at Room Temperature for Quantum Communication, Key Distribution Applications. Project code R/SRT. Sponsor: Telecom Centres of Excellence. That is India's TCoE programme, not a private start-up title, and it is the sentence most copypaste portals will drop.

The assignment is one year from joining, extendable to a maximum of four years or until the project ends, whichever is earlier, based on performance. It is not a regular Institute post.

Consolidated pay is Rs 37,000 a month, with the PDF's rider depending on qualification and experience. Upper age on the SRIC listing is 28. Application fee is 0.

GATE or the national-exam list

Essential qualification (DST-style JRF wording):

  • a postgraduate degree in a basic science, or a graduate / postgraduate professional degree, and
  • selection through CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE, or
  • a national-level examination conducted by Central Government departments and their agencies or institutes: DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER and equivalent.

Quantum, photonics or electromagnetic simulations experience is beneficial, not a substitute for that exam line. The notice says mere possession of the minimum does not entitle you to an interview.

The PDF invites applications on plain paper. It does not print a postal address or an email. Do not invent one. Use the Apply control on the SRIC recruitment board (serial 6100) as it stands on the day you apply.

NET/GATE wording and the 15 October close are on the syllabus page. Practice is on the practice page.
