Two certificate years that aggregators mix up

OBC (NCL) uses financial year 2026-27, the Central List, the Government of India creamy-layer test, and the Annexure-III declaration. A state-format OBC certificate is not enough.

EWS uses an Income and Asset Certificate for financial year 2026-27, based on family income of financial year 2025-26. Family income must be below Rs 8 lakh, and the usual asset exclusions apply (agricultural land, flat size, plot size). Those two financial years are not the same. Print both from the same folder and check the years before you pay.

Age, pay and the job on the ground

Upper age is 25 on 4 November 2026. SC and ST get 5 years, OBC (NCL) 3 years, and PwBD 10 / 13 / 15 depending on category, with a hard ceiling of 56. The work is Class-X support: files, dak, photocopying, rooms, dusting, tea. It is a Level-01 post, Rs 18,000 to 56,900, with printed approximate emoluments of Rs 40,000 in a Class X city. New appointees are under the National Pension System of 2004, with DA, HRA, TA, medical facilities and leave as applicable.

Selection is only the written paper

There is no interview. Everyone who is provisionally eligible sits a competitive written examination, on OMR or as a computer-based test. The paper is Class 10th standard, 150 questions, 2 hours, bilingual except the English Language paper. Each correct answer is +3. Each wrong answer is −1. That is a one-third penalty, not one-fourth.

If two candidates tie, the order is: fewer negative marks, then older date of birth, then earlier essential qualification, then first name in alphabetical order. There is no re-evaluation. If the exam runs in several shifts, scores are normalised by the CSIR formula in Annexure-XIII. The tentative answer key goes up on recruit.ncl.res.in with a window to represent.

Fee and the form

UR, OBC (NCL) and EWS pay Rs 500. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen pay nothing. Departmental candidates still pay Rs 500. That line is easy to miss if you only read the reserved-category fee table.

Payment can fail silently. The advertisement allows six attempts and tells you to wait 20 minutes if a transaction is unresolved. Do not close the browser on a spinning payment page and assume the form has gone in.

Document verification of originals is done before the offer. Keep 10th, 12th if you claim the desirable qualification, category certificates with the correct financial year, and photo identity ready.
